Welcome to Anticipated Reads, formerly hosted by Books Are My Thing and now hosted here at Reviews In A Pinch (check out our new graphic, courtesy of my friend Kelsey)! The idea is that we showcase 1-3 books releasing each month (I generally can’t/won’t limit myself), letting you know what new books are coming out that we’re really excited about. It’s a monthly meme that will be occurring the first Wednesday of every month! Better yet, if you want to share books you’re anticipating coming out, you can link up at the bottom of each month’s post in the comments!
So, let’s check out what I’m excited about in January below:
Note: I did pre-order quite a few books and am excited about other releases, but I wanted to showcase a few that maybe aren’t considered the top releases like Windwitch by Susan Dennard, Wayfarer by Alexandra Bracken, Long Way Home by Katie McGarry and RoseBlood by A.G. Howard.

Caravel by Stephanie Garber
- Release Date: January 31
Overview: Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.
But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.
Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nevertheless becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.
